Capsule summary

These pages advocate universal access (or the nearest possible equivalent) to web information. Accordingly, they place the most emphasis on widespread compatibility of media formats used.

The simplest way to add pictures to web pages is converting existing images. This is also the mandatory last step for the creation of new graphics.

The creation of original graphics is in many ways simpler when using a computer, but there is still a substantial amount of learning involved. Weigh the demands of your specific area of expertise against the benefits of complete control on the appearance and content of your graphics.

Just breaking down geographical and economical barriers is reason enough to publish on the web. But electronic media also allows more complete presentations by going beyond static images and text into multimedia.
