    • Awarded a Full Tuition Scholarship, a Mellon Fellowship from the Center for Advanced Studies in Art and Technology, and a Teaching Assistantship in film history and criticism.
    • Programmed software for algorithmic raster image generation through sequential transformations (a precursor of image morphing). Demonstrated the system's artistic applications in animation and installation projects.

  • Faculty, full-time, Computer Graphics area of the Art Department, Fullerton College, Fullerton, CA, 1992-current.
    • Current teaching assignments are digital illustration (vector graphics), digital painting (raster graphics), and introduction to web media. Also teach: survey of computer applications in the visual arts, interactive multimedia authoring, digital animation, and desktop publishing.
    • Ongoing curriculum activities include distance learning development (presently converting two traditional art classes to online teaching: introduction to art, and perspective drawing), and program revision (currently rewriting the entire computer graphics sequence, which comprises orientation classes and advanced courses on 2D and 3D graphics, animation, video, interactive multimedia, and print and electronic publishing). Long-term curriculum research focuses on complementing or replacing commercial applications with open source software.
    • Responsibility for computer lab administration: evaluate and specify hardware and software purchases, and interface new acquisitions with existing assets. Major commercial applications currently managed (i.e. installed, checked for compatibility with operating environment, and integrated into the instructional process) include: Adobe CS Suite (Acrobat, GoLive, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Version Cue), Macromedia MX Suite (Director, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, FreeHand), After Effects, Cinema 4D, DVD Studio Pro, Final Cut Pro, LightWave, Maya, Peak LE, Premiere, Pro Tools Free, QuarkXPress, VectorWorks. Desktop and network system software: Mac OS, Mac OS X, other Unix variants (including various Linux distributions), Mac OS X Server, AppleShare IP.
    • Responsible for maintaining an Internet presence for the computer graphics program. Ongoing web development research focuses on accessibility, with an emphasis on U.S. Rehabilitation Act Section 508 compliance.
    • Previous instructional activities included developing and teaching an interactive computer multimedia job training program, and workshops on computer multimedia for community college faculty.
    • Served in the academic senate as fine arts division representative, and on the campus-wide instructional computing steering committee.

Managed soft/hardware purchases, installed and administered a networked, multi-platform (Apple Macintosh, Sun 3/150, Pixar Image Computer II) teaching lab, augmented with a variety of peripherals. Designed and taught five-class instructional sequence covering: computers in the visual arts, computer art--2d, computer art--3d, computer art--animation, computer art--interactive.
    • Also taught traditional art classes in illustration and in lettering and layout, and foundations classes in design, and in color and drawing.
    • Designed and taught computer art and lab management workshops for high school teachers, and an orientation workshop on computer use for university art faculty.

    • Set up and operated digital facilities for medical illustration and slide output.
